Capita have been given £400 m contract for management of medical notes, prescription payments and admin support to GPs. As Clive Peedell comments, the new structure of the NHS created by government is now needing a whole new layer of administration to support it and taking money away from patient care.
The Treasury is planning £200 m cut in public health budgets given to local authorities which is regarded as “non-NHS funding” and therefore not ring fenced. Public health docs expect services for children under 5 years, obesity, sexual health and drug treatment programmes to be hit.
